Innovative Clinical Psychology
Branding and a website to help newly-independent clinical psychologist Dr Abigail Methley signpost new clients and demonstrate her qualifications.

The Goal
Dr Abigail Methley has been working as a clinical psychologist for over 5 years, primarily as an associate from other practices. She wanted more direct clients, so she wanted a website where she could signpost potential clients, demonstrate credibility, and obtain direct referrals.
Challenges
Dr Methley loves innovation and wanted the website to look modern and forward-thinking, but at the same time, we had to be mindful that her potential clients are vulnerable.
The website needed to be robust enough to include additional functionality in the future (such as courses).
Solution
We started with the website strategy where we deep dived into Dr Methley’s business and competitors.
We determined that the current brand identity didn’t represent her vision for science-backed psychology, so we created a new visual identity for her business to include a new logo and branding. At the same time, Dr Methley settled on the name “Innovative Clinical Psychology” for her business name rather than using her own name.
We started by brainstorming some logo options that would reflect Dr Methley’s work. After playing with several concepts and colour palettes, we decided on a techy graphic that alludes to the shape of a brain. A colour gradient of blue and teal is relaxed and suitable for a therapy website. This replaced an old version of the logo with one that was better reflective of innovation and the science-backed work.

New logo

Once a logo was agreed, we worked on brand guidelines to help maintain consistent branding across the board. We used the colours in her old logo as a starting point and developed these further:

We looked at colour gradients and showed Dr Methley how her branding could be applied across different channels:

Next, we created a sitemap to identify which pages were required on the site.
As a new website, it was important to ensure we covered all areas of the business, from prospective patients to peer supervision.
Though not a large site, the sitemap enabled Dr Methley to gain clarity on the services offered.

UX and UI Design
Dr Methley’s personal brand had to be prominent in order to put a face to a very human-to-human service. The website had to reflect this personal brand while clearly demonstrating the services on offer.
Her new colour palette was bold, so we chose some gradients to soften the look while still maintaining the on-brand look.
We added some icons and soft backgrounds.
To make the website look modern and forward-thinking, we used an innovative gradient on certain headings, button borders and image backgrounds.

Development
We developed the website using WordPress so we could add future functionality at a later date.
The site included a new blog, so we made sure we had content to launch immediately and that it was easy for Dr Methley to add further posts and resources in the future.
Finally, we built a process chart for her (also known as a timeline) that fitted beautifully with the overall look and feel of her website.
